Amazon Web Services Targets HPC Market

Amazon Web Services has rolled out a version of the Amazon EC2 cloud computing service specifically targeted at high-performance computing.

Amazon Web Services have targeted the high-performance computing market with the launch of Cluster Compute Instances, a version of its Amazon EC2 cloud computing service specifically designed for HPC, DatacenterDynamics reports.

The new service, the result of user feedback, offers 10 times the network throughput of the largest current Amazon EC2 instance types. According to SearchCloudComputing.com, for $1.60 an hour Cluster Compute Instances for Amazon EC2 offers 23 GB of memory,
33.5 EC2 Compute Units, 1690 GB of instance storage, a 64-bit platform and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Amazon Web Services will also offer a larger instance service for $2.40 per hour.
