The National Petascale Computing Center provided a sneek peek of the Blue Waters supercomputer.

The Blue Waters supercomputer on the campus of University of Illinois won't be completed until 2011, but its future home, the National Petascale Computing Facility had an open house yesterday. The 88,000-square-foot facility will be water-cooled and operate at a sustained petaflop -- 1,000 trillion calculations per second -- range, says News-Gazette.com.

The peak performance of Blue Waters is expected to be 10 petaflops. In addition to its tremendous power, the facility is expected to have a PUE of less than 1.2 and be LEED Gold certified once the system goes online next year, according to Data Center Knowledge.
