CIOs best begin considering data center transformation, because it's a strategy that won't take place overnight.

Helen Tang, worldwide director of data center transformation solutions at HP, discussed three unmistakable signs indicating that it is time to consider data center transformation in a piece for Data Center Knowledge. According to Tang, the three signs to look for are: increased complexity, rising energy and operational costs and limited capacity.

Data center transformation is considered one of six ways for IT budget planners to support business growth, reports BusinessWeek. Converged infrastructures accelerate the transition from the traditional siloed approach to IP storage and help build a cloud-ready infrastructure.

Data center transformation isn't expected to become a mainstream fixture until 2013, according to industry analyst Ian Brown from Ovum. While a lack of mature technology and cost of migration are currently holding the trend back, Brown fully expects data center transformation to be one of the four dominant trends of the managed service landscape over the course of the next five years, PC World reports.
