The first Google Energy deal has been made for 114 megawatts of wind power from NextEra Energy.

Google Energy has signed a deal to purchase 114 megawatts of wind energy from NextEra Energy Resources starting July 3, Reuters reports. Google recently invested $38.8 million in two North Dakota wind farms operated by NextEra. The 20-year power purchase agreement will see Google buy the bulk of energy produced from a NextEra facility in Iowa.

According to Earth2Tech, Google will not use the energy it purchases for its own facilities. Instead, the company will sell the wind power back to the grid for Renewable Energy Certificates. This will allow Google to offset some of its carbon emissions in its quest to become carbon neutral.
