Marvell unveiled its low-power quad-core Armada XP processor.

Marvell unveiled its quad-core Armada XP processor, which is based on the company's ARM v7 MP core. The Armada XP has four cores running at 1.6 GHz with a shared 2MB L2 cache and delivers up to 16600 Dhrystone MIPS while just consuming 10 watts, according to ITProPortal.com.

Marvell claims its new system on chip is the fastest ARM processor on the market today. Stacey Higginbotham at GigaOM says the low-power chip from Marvell and similar ARM offerings from other vendors could potentially challenge the AMD/Intel duopoly.
