According to IT Pro, cost savings and green credentials were not the only drivers of the move. Nick Razey, chief executive of NGD said in a statement:
The mounting pressure and legislation for reducing carbon footprint and emissions will increasingly affect large IT users and their data center operations which is why we always planned to be totally supplied by renewable energy from the outset of the project.
Razey went on to say:
Our pioneering renewable energy agreement will directly benefit existing and future NGD Europe customer organizations and demonstrates we are actually doing what other data centers are only just starting to think about. In an industry which consumes over 2 percent of the UK's total power supply, it is a significant step to ensuring our operations are as competitive, efficient and environmentally-friendly as possible.
