SeaMicro has become the first company to implement Intel's dual-core Atom N570 processors into a 256-processor server. The server maker claims its SM10000-64 server cuts power and reduces space requirements by 75 percent.

The low-power server makes use of 512 Atom processing cores running at 1.66GHz, which combine to offer 850GHz of processing power, PCWorld reports. Intel's Atom processors, typically used in netbooks, are capable of running two threads simultaneously, boosting application performance while being ideal for Internet transactions such as e-mail, search and social networking.

Available immediately, the server's price starts at $148,000.
