The companies hope to have a deal in place by the beginning of the fourth quarter. The company will mostly use systems from SoftLayer, which will likely be the name of the merged providers as well, says The WHIR. Combined, the companies will generate roughly $300 million in revenue, serve more than 25,000 customers and manage more than 75,000 servers.
U.S. hosting service providers SoftLayer and The Planet are planning a merger of the two companies into one entity.
After acquiring a controlling interest in SoftLayer earlier this week, GI Partners is looking to create a Web hosting powerhouse, says Data Center Knowledge. The Planet, another of GI Partners' properties, will merge with SoftLayer. This article was originally published on Friday Aug 6th 2010
