Alexis Richardson discusses his plans for growing container networking.

As Docker container use grows, so too does the need for increasingly advanced and scalable networking technologies. While Docker itself now provides some rudimentary networking, it has also enabled a broad cross-section of third party vendors, like Weaveworks, to extend container networking.

In a video interview with Enterprise Networking Planet, Alexis Richardson, founder and CEO of Weaveworks, explains what his company is all about and where container networking is headed in the year to come.

Weaveworks now has three products: Weave Net, Weave Scope and Weave Run. Scope is a monitoring and visualization tool, while Weave Run is a microservices router. Weave Net is the original networking component of Weave. It enables a form of Software Defined Networking for Docker containers. To date, Weaveworks has raised $5 million in funding, though there are likely to be additional funding rounds in 2016 as the company gears up for a commercial offering.

"We had always planned to launch a commercial offering in 2016," Richardson said. "This year has been about building out our products, talking to customers and figuring out where to focus."
