Attacks Use eBay Ruse to Launch Malware Attack

Wednesday Jul 14th 2010 by Kara Reeder

The attack begins with an unsolicited e-mail with the subject line "Payment request from."

Sophos researchers are telling users to beware of a new malware campaign that's using fake requests for payment from eBay as a way to infect users' PCs and mobile devices with a variety of spam and malware, eSecurity Planet reports.

The attack begins with an unsolicited e-mail with the subject line "Payment request from" and a phony "eBay@reply1.ebay.com" return e-mail address. Clicking on the link takes users to a spam-related website for a Canadian pharmacy store that begins to download even more malware from other third-party websites.
