Olympus Cameras Infected with Worm

Thursday Jun 10th 2010 by Kara Reeder

Nearly 2,000 Olympus Stylus Tough 6010 digital cameras have shipped with a worm.

According to V3.co.uk, nearly 2,000 Olympus Stylus Tough 6010 digital cameras have shipped with a worm lurking on the included microSD card. According to the article:

Once the card is inserted into a Windows computer via a USB port the worm spreads if the autorun feature is turned on or if the application is accessed.

Olympus has offered its apologies and has created a website that allows customers to check the serial number of their cameras against the malware infected list.

This is not the only such incident of a microSD card being infected. In March, Panda Security discovered three malware programs loaded on the microSD card of a recently purchased HTC Magic phone that belonged to a Panda employee.
