Apple May Expand North Carolina Data Center

by Ainsley Jones

Apple may double the size of its North Carolina data center, which has yet to open.

Apple's Maiden, NC data center has yet to open and there is already news that the company is planning to double the size of the server farm to 1 million square feet. The expansion of the facility, which is set to open any day now, according to local officials, demonstrates Apple's belief in the cloud, says Ray Willington at HotHardware.

Although no one outside of Apple knows the specific purpose of the servers, it's believed the data center will largely shoulder the burden of Apple's media, music streaming and cloud services, says Darrell Etherington at theAppleBlog.
