BREEAM Data Center Method Aims to Halve Energy Usage

by Ainsley Jones

BRE Global has added an assessment method specifically for data centers.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently established its guiding principles for energy efficiency in the data center. Facilities in the UK will be able to slash energy usage in half thanks to a new building standard, reports Energy Efficiency News.

BRE Global has produced an environmental-impact assessment method for data centers. The BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) can be carried out on new buildings, refurbishments of existing data centers, or a combination of the two.

The standard utilizes the DCiE (data center infrastructure efficiency) and PUE metrics along with traditional building regulations. The Carbon Trust has also launched a new design advice service to assist designers and operators in building or refurbishing data center facilities.
