Podcast: Benchmarking, Robust Networks and Unified Communications

by Carl Weinschenk

A unified communications platform can cause a lot of problems if it isn't built on a solid infrastructure. It makes sense: Legacy systems just aren't asked to operate at the same high level or do as many things simultaneously. Great care must be taken, says Jay Botelho, director of product management for WildPackets, even if things appear to be working well before the deployment begins.

Many problems can lurk, unnoticed, in corporate IT infrastructures. Unnoticed, that is, until the stress of a unified communications platform exposes the shortcomings. Jay Botelho, director of product management for WildPackets, tells Unified Communications Edge's Carl Weinschenk that establishing baseline performance -- and doing so at a variety of times during a day and week and during busy seasons -- can be key to finding and correcting problems before they impact end-user performance.
